Marine biologist and Wildlife conservationist

From jungles to mountains, deserts, or ocean depths - the German scientist, wildlife activist, and award-wining photographer and filmmaker shares his missions, adventures and his knowledge with a huge community across several channels. His impressive nature and wildlife shots and expertise motivate his followers to not only understand but also to love and protect our planet and its inhabitants – for this purpose, he founded Mission Erde.

You have to stop thinking that you can't do anything as individuals. It’s quite the opposite!

With this credo, marine biologist, research diver, wildlife photographer, filmmaker, and content creator Robert Marc Lehmann explains the connection between consumption and environmental destruction—how every purchasing decision can help or harm our planet.

The research for conscious decisions is time-consuming, which is why the committed environmentalist prepares this knowledge and breaks down complex global connections and scientific findings for his audience of millions in an understandable way and communicates it via documentaries, television formats, lectures, books, and social media.

The East German from Jena combines science and creative storytelling in a unique way. His videos are both educational and adventure journeys to the most remote places in the world.

With his interactive reaction content on Twitch, he often triggers controversial discussions with large online communities and raises awareness of the impact of each individual on global environmental destruction.

By criticizing influencers with a wide reach, his content also reaches less ecologically interested circles and encourages them to think about protecting our planet in their everyday actions.

While working at an aquarium, Robert Marc had firsthand experience with wild fish, catching them himself and subsequently watching them suffer and die. This made him reconsider his actions. He became an environmentalist and animal rights activist and has since been able to gather and share deep insights into the beauty of nature, our obligation to protect it, and the ongoing challenges for humans in over 120 countries.

Robert Marc raises awareness about whale and shark extinction and conservation in the world's oceans, campaigns for orangutans and other endangered animal species in the jungle, and provides information about the dismal conditions in elephant tourism parks as well as cruel animal husbandry and meat production.

Mission Erde e.V.

He co-founded Mission Erde e.V. (Mission Earth) to support his nature conservation projects and has initiated several measures to save wild animals and fight against environmental crimes. His empathy, expertise, and emotional stories touch people's hearts, and his followers support his activities with donations and by integrating the protection of the environment and animals into their own behavior as well as engaging with and contributing to the discourse on social media.

He therefore not only promotes his own environmental protection projects but also motivates us all to live more consciously and take responsibility for our planet.

The prize money from the 21st Century Adventurer Award will go to Mission Erde e.V. to support its diverse environmental and animal welfare initiatives.
